One New Yorker revealed it took her longer to travel to the TCS New York City Marathons starting line on Sunday than to run the race itself.
A video shared by TikTok user @nycmuncher shows the early-morning journey to Staten Island to start the race. After taking the subway to Times Square–42nd Street station, she can be seen waiting for more than an hour in a crowded line for the bus to Staten Island.
After a roughly 2-hour bus ride, the runner had to get through security lines to enter the athletes village. Once there, she was able to enjoy some coffee before setting off.
The NYC Marathon runs through all five boroughs for a total distance of 26.2 miles, finishing in Central Park. The 2022 race reached full capacity of 50,000 runners for the first time since 2019, according to the New York Road Runners.
Evans Chebet of Kenya won the mens race, with a time of 2:08:41, just 13 seconds ahead of Shura Kitata of Ethiopia. Chebet also won the Boston Marathon this year, becoming the second man since 2011 to win both races in the same year.
Sharon Lokedi, also representing Kenya, won the womens circuit in her marathon debut, with a time of 2:23:23.
Aliphine Tuliamuk, the top American woman finished seventh, and Scott Fauble, the top American man, finished ninth.
